SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The theatrics continued Wednesday evening for the Shippensburg University women's soccer team, as a golden goal by senior Ashley Vellucci with 7:58 left in the second overtime period capped off a three-goal comeback and gave the Raiders a 3-2 victory over Lock Haven in a PSAC match at David See Field.

Shippensburg (8-4, 7-4 PSAC) trailed 2-0 at the intermission and needed a pair of tallies in the second half, including a strike from junior Brooke Clippinger with just 62 seconds left in regulation, to force overtime. Vellucci's golden goal was her second of the season, as her strike in the first overtime at Mercyhurst on September 27 also secured SU a 3-2 victory.

Lock Haven (4-8-1, 3-8-1) peppered the Raider cage in the opening 45 minutes, hitting the crossbar twice in addition to tallying its two first-half goals. The 14 shots that the Eagles registered in the first half are the most for a Raider opponent in a 45-minute session this season.

The Raiders responded with constant pressure in the second half and overtime. After being out-shot 14-6 in the first half, SU out-shot the Eagles 17-4 over the final 57 minutes of play. Shippensburg also had 10 corner kicks in the match.

"To be down 2-0 and fight out of that hole, to put in the work and energy to climb out and find the equalizer, that's just a great team win," head coach Rob Fulton said after the match. "I'm so proud of the girls."

SU got on the board in the 56th minute after a marvelous run by redshirt-junior Kate Zech. After dribbling through multiple defenders, she evaded another oncoming defender and sent a deft touch onto freshman Casey Rightmyer, who slammed a shot into the net that brought the Raiders within one goal.

Facing desperation late in the match, SU began to punt shots ad nauseam toward the goal. Late in the 89th minute, SU had multiple shots outside the box that were blocked. A carom eventually made its way over to Clippinger, who chipped a shot over the LHU goalkeeper and into the net that tied the score 2-2.

With less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation, and just 30 seconds after Clippinger's goal, Zech got loose on a breakaway after a long ball somehow found its way onto her feet near midfield. In a one-on-one matchup against the oncoming goalkeeper, Zech sent a shot toward the empty cage but it rolled wide right.

In the second overtime, senior Kylee Bricker assisted on Vellucci's golden goal by sending a cross toward the left side of the box. Vellucci turned and a fired a shot that hit a defender and continued into the left side of the goal, sending the SU bench into its latest frenzy.

Shippensburg has now won all four of its games this season that have required extra time, including three in double overtime. SU also remained unbeaten at home this season (6-0) despite the fact that Lock Haven's two tallies were the first allowed at David See Field this season by the Raiders.

"This team just has a knack of being able to win those overtime games," Fulton said. "They find new ways to win, and that bodes well for us going forward."

Shippensburg will travel to Bloomsburg this Saturday for a pivotal 3:30 p.m. clash with the Huskies at Sports Stadium.

Notes: Wednesday's 3-2 victory and the Sept. 27 3-2 victory at Mercyhurst are the only two matches this season in which the Raiders have not shut out their opponent or been shutout in a game. SU's 14 goals scored in 2013 is tied for 12th in the PSAC but its 12 goals allowed ranks sixth-best in the league.
