SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team hung close early with Slippery Rock on Saturday night but was unable to take down the PSAC West-leading Rock, falling 68-59 in the second of two weekend PSAC crossover games from Heiges Field House.

Sophomore Reggie Charles led the Raiders (2-9, 0-7 PSAC) with 20 points – including a 3-of-4 effort from three-point range – and a game-high four assists. Junior Dylan Edgar shot 7-of-13 from the floor for 15 points to go along with eight rebounds. Freshman Joe Lococo added 10 points and five rebounds.

Slippery Rock (9-2, 6-1) led for the majority of the first half as the Raiders fought their way to a tie game on multiple occasions. With the score tied at 23-23 with 5:40 left before halftime, The Rock went on an 8-0 run to take its biggest first half lead. Two Charles layups in the final minute cut SU's halftime deficit to 33-29.

The Rock opened the second half on a 7-0 run in the first three minutes and held closely to its double-digit lead. Down by 15, 62-47, with four minutes left, however, Shippensburg went on a 10-0 run sparked by back-to-back three-pointers from Charles that closed the deficit to five with 1:50 remaining.

An SU turnover and a Slippery Rock layup made the score 64-57 before an Edgar dunk again brought the deficit to five with 50 seconds left. SRU missed the front end of back-to-back one-and-one free throw attempts but recovered and went 4-of-4 from the stripe in the final 17 seconds to cement the victory.

The Raiders will wrap up PSAC crossover play on the road next weekend with 7:30 p.m. games at Indiana (Pa.) on Friday and at California (Pa.) on Saturday.
