Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Joe Lococo led all scorers with a career-high 24 points and sophomore Reggie Charles dished out a career-high 10 assists on Friday night, but the Shippensburg University men's basketball team was unable to finish off its second-half comeback in a 82-74 loss to Edinboro in the first of two weekend PSAC crossover games from Heiges Field House.

The Raiders (2-8, 0-6 PSAC) cut a 20-point early second-half deficit to as few as four points with 3:53 remaining in regulation but were unable to close out the Fighting Scots (8-2, 4-2), whose bench outscored the Raiders 19-3.

Junior Dylan Edgar scored 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and fell one rebound short of a double-double while sophomore Sam Pygatt added a season-high 14 points, one point shy of tying his career high.

Freshman Tony Ellis added nine points and six rebounds while Charles finished with five points and five rebounds. Charles originally set his career-high of 10 assists in a win against Penn State Wilkes-Barre almost exactly one year ago today (Jan. 3, 2012).

Shippensburg led in the beginning of the first half, eventually jumping out to a 23-16 lead halfway through the period. From that point, however, Edinboro embarked on a commanding 21-1 run to take a 37-24 lead with 2:17 left in the half before entering intermission up 14, 42-28, after a half-court buzzer-beater from Will Marrow.

Edinboro extended its lead to 20 with a 50-30 lead just over three minutes into the second half before the Raiders rattled off 13 consecutive points to cut the deficit to seven, 50-43, at the 14:50 mark.

A 7-0 run later in the half finished off with a Lococo rebound and layup off his own three-point miss cut Edinboro's lead to five, 65-60, with 5:31 remaining. The Raiders would eventually chip the score to 67-63 with under four minutes remaining, but the Fighting Scots shot 11-of-13 from the free-throw line from there on out to maintain their lead.

The Raiders will square off against Slippery Rock tomorrow night at 7:30 from Heiges Field House.
