Alex Gildea recorded her first ever double-double on Saturday afternoon with career highs of 12 points and 10 rebounds and junior
Sarah Strybuc scored 15 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for the Shippensburg University women's basketball team in a 74-55 win over East Stroudsburg from the Warriors' Koehler Fieldhouse.
With the win, the Raiders (12-6, 8-5 PSAC) jump into a tie for third place in the PSAC East standings with Kutztown, which lost to Millersville on Saturday.
Shippensburg was efficient defensively, holding East Stroudsburg (5-12, 4-9 PSAC) to just 28 percent shooting (17-of-60), including 18 percent from three-point range (2-of-11). SU limited ESU to just six points in the first 10 minutes of the second half – a sequence that allowed the Raiders to push their lead to as many as 28 points.
Gildea played a career-high 23 minutes, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Strybuc led all players with five assists while freshman
Caitlyn Deeter again matched her career high with 10 points for the third time this season. Deeter made her first career start and played a career-high 28 minutes, leading SU with four steals in addition to three assists.
Freshman
Stephanie Knauer posted nine points and six rebounds and senior
Dana Wert recorded eight points, four boards and three steals.
Senior
Caitlin Bamberger played her best game since returning in January from a serious injury suffered in November. She scored six points on three mid-range jumpers in the first half and finished with two assists and a rebound in 10 minutes off the bench.
East Stroudsburg's Jessica Martin recorded nine blocks, which are the most by a PSAC women's basketball player since the 2002-03 season.
The Raiders return to Heiges Field House on Wednesday evening for a 6 p.m. PSAC East showdown with Millersville, which is now tied for first place in the division with Bloomsburg (losers to West Chester on Saturday).
