SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – With a season-high 21 points on Wednesday night, senior Dana Wert surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone to lead the Shippensburg University women's basketball team to a 75-55 win over West Chester from Heiges Field House that snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Golden Rams.

The 20-point victory is the Raiders' (11-6, 7-5 PSAC) first win over West Chester (9-7, 6-6) in over five years – the last being a 74-62 home victory on Jan. 5, 2008 – and the first since SU joined the PSAC East prior to the 2008-09 season. The win gives Shippensburg sole possession of fourth place in the East standings.

Dana Wert and junior Sarah Strybuc led all players with 21 points each. Dana Wert shot 4-of-6 from three-point range and led SU with seven rebounds, dished out seven assists and swiped a career-high five steals to lead all players.

Strybuc added six assists and four rebounds while freshman Caitlyn Deeter contributed nine points in 22 minutes off the bench. Senior Shawna Wert also recorded seven assists, as she and Dana led all players.

West Chester jumped out to an early lead, building up a 24-12 lead with seven minutes left before halftime. The Raiders then swung the momentum with a 13-point run – that included Dana Wert's sixth point of the night and 1,000th of her career on a free throw with 6:55 left – to grab a 25-24 lead at the 4:38 mark.

The Golden Rams then responded with five straight points to go up by four before the Raiders used an 8-0 run to finish out the half and take a 33-29 lead into the locker room.

SU pushed the lead into double digits six minutes into the second half. WCU got as close as seven points, down 57-50 with 5:54 left, before Shippensburg closed out the game in control with an 18-5 run.

The Raiders hit the road on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest at East Stroudsburg from the Warriors' Koehler Fieldhouse.
