SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team headed into halftime down by just two to West Chester on Wednesday night but was unable to remain close with the Golden Rams in the second half, falling 74-57 from Heiges Field House.
Sophomore
Reggie Charles led the Raiders (4-12, 2-10 PSAC) with 15 points, four assists and three steals. Junior
Dylan Edgar added 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Sophomore
Sam Pygatt shot 2-of-2 from three-point range for nine points and freshman
Tony Ellis added six points and a team-high eight rebounds.
West Chester (11-5, 9-3) jumped out by 10 points, up 15-5, early in the half. The Raiders then embarked on an 18-4 run spanning six minutes to grab a 23-19 lead midway through the half. The score remained close for the remainder of the period, and with the Golden Rams ahead by five with two minutes remaining, a Charles free throw and a Lococo layup on the final possession cut SU's deficit to 35-33 at the break.
Shippensburg got to within one point on two separate occasions early in the second half before WCU eventually started to pull away just past the midway point of the half. The Golden Rams' Jon Breeden led the visitor attack and finished the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds from his guard position.
The Raiders hit the road on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest at East Stroudsburg from the Warriors' Koehler Fieldhouse.
