BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome the No. 25 Bloomsburg Huskies on Wednesday night inside Nelson Field House, dropping a 70-40 decision to one of the division's top teams.
Freshman
Stephanie Knauer had eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds for the Raiders. Senior
Shawna Wert also chipped in eight points. Senior
Dana Wert had four points, four rebounds and three assists.
Shippensburg (9-6, 5-5 PSAC) was held to just 15 points in the first half but was still in the game at the intermission, with the score 27-15 in favor of the Huskies. BU, however, opened the second half with a 19-3 run over the first eight minutes of the frame to take control.
Bloomsburg (11-3, 7-3 PSAC), a squad that had made 11 or more three-pointers in three of its last four games, was limited by the Raider defense to just 4-of-20 shooting from beyond the arc. Save for Lauren Ellis (19 pts., 8 reb.), Bloomsburg's top scorers Dana Wieller and Kayla Oxenrider were limited to just nine and four points respectively.
SU struggled from the field, shooting a season-low 28 percent from the field. The Raiders, who entered the game with the second-most free throw attempts in the country this season (32 per game), managed just 9-of-16 at the charity stripe.
The Raiders return home Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup with Mansfield inside Heiges Field House.
