Box Score

Three players scored in double figures on Friday evening but the Shippensburg University women's basketball team was unable to take down No. 16 Indiana (Pa.) in a 74-71 setback in the first of two road PSAC West contests this weekend.

Junior Sarah Strybuc posted her third 20-point game of the season and sixth of her career with 20 points to go along with career highs of six assists and six steals (both game highs).

Senior Dana Wert shot 3-of-5 from three-point range and scored 16 points in addition to four rebounds and three assists while senior Shawna Wert added 10 points and four assists.

Freshman Stephanie Knauer rebounded from early foul trouble that left her scoreless in just five minutes of action in the first half, and finished the game with five points and a team-high seven rebounds while playing the entirety of the second half.

A Strybuc three-pointer gave Shippensburg (8-5, 4-4 PSAC) an early 8-3 lead four minutes into the game before a 10-1 IUP (11-3, 6-2) run gave the Crimson Hawks a 13-9 lead midway through the half. SU eventually grabbed an eight-point lead, 34-26, with 46 seconds left, but an IUP layup on the next possession followed by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from just inside half court cut the Raider lead to 34-31 at the break.

The Crimson Hawks began to wrestle the lead back in their favor midway through the second half, as a 14-3 run spanning four-and-a-half minutes opened up a 10-point IUP lead, 58-48, with eight minutes left.

The Raiders made a late run, however, after facing a game-high 11-point deficit, down 66-55 at the 4:26 mark. Six made SU free throws and a Dana Wert three-pointer made up a 9-0 run that lasted into the final minute and cut the deficit to just two, 66-64, with 41 seconds left. The Crimson Hawks shot 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the final 37 seconds, however, to ice the victory.

The Raiders wrap up PSAC West play tomorrow when they travel to California (Pa.) for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
