Box Score

Junior Bre White scored a pair of first-half goals on Thursday afternoon and her tallies held up through the final whistle as the Shippensburg University field hockey team remained unbeaten on the young season with a 2-1 victory over Millersville from Biemesderfer Stadium.

Shippensburg (3-0) exacted some revenge on the Marauders, who last season defeated SU 3-2. Both of White's goals came in the first 17 minutes of Thursday's match, including the game's opening strike just 3:36 into the contest.

Through three games, White now has seven goals and one assist. Senior Sam Langone had an assist on White's second goal.

The Raider defense remained strong, limiting the Marauders to just five shots in the contest. Senior goalkeeper Ciarra Delost made three saves. The only blemish came midway through the second half off a penalty corner, as Marauder forward Rachel Dickinson lifted a shot into the cage that proved to be the only Marauder goal of the game.

Millersville (2-1) entered the match with momentum, having defeated No.3 Massachusetts-Lowell and No. 10 Bentley in home games last week. MU did achieve 10 penalty corners – including six in the second half – but ended up firing just two shots on goal in the final 35 minutes.

Shippensburg gets a rematch with No. 1 West Chester in its home opener Saturday at 1 p.m. from Robb Sports Complex. The Golden Rams eliminated the Raiders from the NCAA playoffs last season en route to a national championship.

Before the game, the team will be honoring the memory of Jane Goss, who passed away this summer. Goss served Shippensburg for 33 years — as its field hockey coach from 1967-82, its tennis coach from 1967-70 and as the associate director of athletics from 1981-99.

SU will wear t-shirts in her memory during the pregame and a table of memorabilia will be on display during the contest.  Speeches in honor of Goss will be read at halftime.
