SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team used a stellar defensive effort on Saturday afternoon to shut out No. 7 Millersville, 2-0, from Robb Sports Complex in the second of two home PSAC crossover victories against Top-10 opponents this weekend.
The Raiders (11-1) took 12 shots – half on goal – to Millersville's (7-5) six. Senior
Ciarra Delost played the entire game in the cage and made three saves for her second shutout of the season.
After a scoreless start to the game, junior
Taylor Bender opened up the scoring over 27 minutes in when she redirected a pass from sophomore
Ari Saytar into the back of the cage.
Nearly 20 minutes into the second half, Shippensburg nearly added another goal with a scrum in front of the goal resulted in two separate SU shots saved by Millersville goalkeeper Lauren Sotzin. Junior
Bre White was awarded a penalty stroke, however, and her shot went past Sotzin into the left of the cage.
The strike was White's third against the Marauders this season, as the Raiders won at Millersville, 2-1, on Sept. 6.
Shippensburg heads to Seton Hill on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. PSAC West clash.
