SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University field hockey team scored less than four minutes into its Friday afternoon clash with No. 3 Bloomsburg and built a three-goal advantage before outlasting the vaunted Huskies in PSAC crossover play, 4-1, from Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (10-1) tallied just 10 shots on goal, scoring on four, in addition to 12 penalty corners – nine of which came in the first half. The Raiders have scored 11 goals in their last two games despite no player recording a multi-goal game in that span.

SU made the most of its scoring chances in Friday's match. Senior Sam Langone provided the opening charge for the Raiders by collecting the rebound of her initial shot and slamming home her third goal of the season at the 3:43 mark.

With eight minutes remaining before halftime, senior Taylor Jones ripped a low shot through traffic off a nice feed from senior Kayla Harshman to give SU a two-goal advantage. The goal came off the third penalty corner in a 60-second span for the Raiders.

Early in the second half, senior Emily Kohlbus was in the right place at the right time, as she was positioned on the left side of the scoring arc and whacked home a deflected shot off the stick of Langone into the open left side of the cage for her third tally this season.

Junior Lauren Taylor cemented the victory with 2:50 remaining by deftly redirecting a loose ball in the scoring arc on a penalty corner. Taylor reached a new career high with her seventh goal of the season. The tally came on SU's only shot taken during the last 27 minutes of the match.

Senior goalkeeper Ciarra Delost was key to the defensive effort, making a career-high 10 saves in over 58 minutes of work before being relieved by junior Carenna Neely, who finished the match in goal.

Bloomsburg (9-2) out-shot Shippensburg 24-13 on Friday, including a 13-2 margin in the final 30 minutes. The Raiders had a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners during the first half whereas the Huskies achieved a 10-3 margin during the final frame.

Their lone goal, however, came off a 2-on-1 rush where Brooke Simonovich took a Jenna DiSabatino pass and sent a shot into the lower left portion of the goal.

Another key to the Raiders' success was the play of its defense, which came up with key stops at opportune times.

Harshman's play was particularly noteworthy, as the senior defender prevented two goals by making defensive saves in the final six minutes – including an aerial stick stop of an Amber Aulenbach shot with 4:32 remaining. Senior Amanda Burridge also had a key defensive save just 10 minutes in when she extended her stick along the goal line to block an Alexis Weber shot.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak against Bloomsburg and was SU's first victory over the Huskies since its 1-0 win in the 2010 NCAA semifinals.

Shippensburg is back in action tomorrow at 2 p.m. from Robb Sports Complex with a conference crossover against No. 7 Millersville.

Notes: SU's three-goal victory margin was its largest over Bloomsburg since achieving a 6-2 home victory over the Huskies on Oct. 17, 2007…SU's 10 saves were the most made by Raider goalkeepers in a game since current assistant coach Amanda Houser was credited with 14 saves in the 2009 PSAC Championship game held at Robb Sports Complex – a 2-1 loss to the Huskies…SU's three defensive saves are its most in a match since recording the same amount in its 3-0 victory at East Stroudsburg on Nov. 11, 2010.
