SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team dominated possession on Wednesday evening in its PSAC opener, eventually settling for a 1-1 tie with West Chester from David See Field.

The Raiders (1-3-2, 0-0-1 PSAC) held a 28-14 advantage in shots and especially took control beginning after intermission, with 12 shots alone in the second half. SU also managed 10 corner kicks to the Golden Rams' (1-2-2, 0-0-1) three.

After a scoreless first half, WCU's Kevin McCann opened up the scoring at the 53rd minute when he slipped through the defense in front of the goal and finished off a lob pass from Dan Venuto.

Just over 15 minutes later, the Raiders knotted it up when junior Jonathan DeNicola sent in a goal from the left side of the box off a touch pass from senior Sam Talbot. It was DeNicola's first goal of the season and his first since also scoring against West Chester at home last season on Oct. 22.

Talbot had several scoring chances in the second half – none better than a free kick he took from 20 yards out that hit the crossbar – and led all players with seven shots. DeNicola had five shots, as both players finished with three shots on goal.

Sophomore Kevin Hollasch earned his third start in goal and made three first-half saves.

The Raiders return to action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. match at Millersville.
