EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The No. 1-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team used two first-half goals and added another insurance goal with under two minutes left in regulation on Saturday afternoon to pull away from PSAC East foe and No. 10-ranked East Stroudsburg, 3-1, from Whitenight Field.
The Raiders (7-0) finished with a 22-9 advantage in shots and took 15 penalty corners in the contest. SU opened up the scoring at the 14th minute when a pass from senior
Sam Langone found senior
Emily Kohlbus on the left side of the cage for a 1-0 lead and Kohlbus' first goal of the season.
East Stroudsburg (3-3) answered right back, however, as Jessica Lawville tied it up at 1-1 two minutes later. At the 20th minute, senior
Kayla Harshman sent home the eventual game-winner – the first goal of her career – just inside the left side of the cage off an assist from senior
Jamie Levy.
After nearly 50 minutes of scoreless play and several failed Shippensburg scoring chances, the Raiders finally cushioned their lead at the 69th minute with an unassisted goal from junior
Lauren Taylor, who lifted a shot past the ESU goalkeeper just in front of the goal for a 3-1 advantage.
Junior goalkeeper
Carenna Neely earned the start and made six saves in the cage.
SU continues its four-game road trip on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. contest at No. 5 Indiana (Pa.).
