Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Rhonda Runion scored a goal off a corner kick and junior Shelbie Rackley made seven saves on a sunny Friday afternoon from David See Field as the Shippensburg University women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with IUP in PSAC play.

Shippensburg (2-2-2, 0-2-1 PSAC) earned its first point in conference play this season with a steady effort against a staunch Crimson Hawk squad. Rackley made several key stops for the Raiders and had steady support from her defense despite 28 shots being directed her way in the match.

SU finished with a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks – and it was one such opportunity in the first half that resulted in its goal. Junior Rachel Hess sent a corner into the box that deflected off the goalie's hands and into a scrum on the ground. Runion navigated the maze enough to fire a shot into the lower right portion of the net for her second goal of the season – giving SU the advantage at the 26-minute mark.

Arguably the most crucial stop in the game occurred in the 61st minute. Senior Katie Leverentz made a good run down the far right side of the field and tapped a pass over to Hess, setting up a mini-breakaway from no more than 20 yards out. Hess blasted a shot toward the goal but IUP keeper Mara Hricik made a solid reactionary save from point-blank range that kept the score at 1-0.

IUP (4-1-1, 0-1-1 PSAC) knotted the score in the 75th minute with a goal by Adrienne Yoder. The play was set up with a splendid long feed from Jordan Howerton, leaving Yoder to send her shot past a diving Rackley into the lower right ninety.

On Saturday, Shippensburg will host Clarion at 4 p.m. from David See Field.
