Box Score The No.4-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team opened its 2012 season in fashion on Saturday afternoon, shutting out Southern Conn. State, 5-0, in its first of two weekend games at the DoubleTree Fall Classic hosted by Saint Michael's College in Colchester, VT.
Junior
Bre White scored the first two goals of the game and finished with a hat trick for the Raiders (1-0) while leading all players with nine shots. Senior
Sam Langone added seven shots to help Shippensburg out-shoot the Owls (0-1) by a 28-8 margin.
White began the scoring five minutes into the game with a shot into the left side of the cage off an assist from senior
Taylor Jones outside the circle. Nearly 10 minutes later, White added her second tally with an unassisted backhanded shot.
Nearly five minutes before the first half ended, junior transfer
Taylor Bender notched her first career goal in a Raiders uniform with an unassisted strike from the top of the circle.
White completed her third hat trick of her career with a shot she sent into the upper right corner of the cage four minutes into the second half. Senior
Amanda Burridge wrapped up the scoring with a shot off a corner attempt from senior
Emily Kohlbus at the 53rd minute.

Ciarra Delost and junior
Carenna Neely combined for the shutout in goal. Delost earned the start and made two saves while Neely played the entire second half and finished with four stops.
The DoubleTree Fall Classic makes 2012 the fourth straight season that Shippensburg, Southern Conn. State, Saint Michael's and Mansfield are all playing together in a season-opening tournament. SU hosted in 2009 and 2011 and defeated Saint Michael's and SCSU last season by a combined 19-0. In each of those games, White had a hat trick – her most recent hat tricks before Saturday's win.
The Raiders will square off against the host Purple Knights on Sunday at 11 a.m.
