Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team had three starters score at least 13 points on Wednesday night but was unable to fight back from a game-long deficit to West Chester, losing 85-67, from Heiges Field House.

The Raiders (12-11, 9-10 PSAC) were hindered by a 33-percent field goal percentage in the first half and a season-low 54 percent free-throw percentage for the game. West Chester's (17-6, 13-6 PSAC) defense disrupted SU's offensive rhythm, as the Raiders committed a season-high 27 turnovers.

Senior Monae Baker recorded her third-consecutive double-double and scored in double figures for the eighth straight game. She finished the night going 8-of-10 from the field with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Sophomore Sarah Strybuc continued her hot streak, pouring in 17 points with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Over the last three contests, Strybuc is averaging 20.0 points per game.

Junior Caitlin Bamberger hit double figures for the 12th time this season, finishing with 13 points and five rebounds. Junior Dana Wert tied her career high with eight assists in addition to pulling in five rebounds.

Facing an early 10-2 deficit, Shippensburg went off on a 9-4 run – highlighted by a quick steal and a layup before a three-pointer on the next possession all courtesy of Strybuc – to claw back in, down 14-11 with 13:55 left in the half.

A 16-4 run by the Golden Rams sent WCU back up 30-15 at the 8:38 mark. The Raiders got no closer than eight points the rest of the first half before heading into the locker room down 44-32 at the break.

West Chester scored the first 14 points of the second half and opened up a 58-34 lead four minutes into the second period.

The Raiders used a 10-0 run with 4:45 left cut the WCU advantage to just 12, 74-62, before the Golden Rams quickly hiked their lead back up to 18.

By virtue of Mansfield's loss to Bloomsburg on Wednesday night, Shippensburg and East Stroudsburg are now the only two teams that remain in contention for the fourth and final playoff spot in the PSAC East. With three regular season games to play, SU holds a three-game advantage over ESU for the spot.

The Raiders will travel Saturday to Cheyney for a 1 p.m. tipoff against the Wolves.
