SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Freshman
Stephanie Knauer managed career highs with 24 points and 18 rebounds on Saturday afternoon despite being in foul trouble, but the short-handed Raiders dropped a 69-62 decision to rival Kutztown in its PSAC Eastern Division home opener.
Shippensburg (6-2, 2-1 PSAC) led 28-24 at the break and by as many as nine points in the final minute of the first half but Kutztown (3-3, 2-1 PSAC) took the lead with 16:11 to play in regulation and would not relinquish its lead for the remainder of the game – leading by as many as 19 points with less than five minutes to play.
Knauer, who had 11 points and eight rebounds by halftime, was integral to Shippensburg's late run in the final five minutes. She had six points and seven rebounds (including three offensive boards) in the final 4:19 of play en route to her fourth double-double of the season.
Senior guard
Morgan Taylor had a productive game off the bench, recording season highs of nine points, six rebounds and three assists. Taylor's nine points are her most since her freshman season and her six rebounds are a career high.
Junior
Sarah Strybuc scored 11 points, shooting 3-of-7 from three-point range, and had two assists. Senior
Raediah Lyles had six points and a season-high seven rebounds, while freshman
Mariah Traywick contributed seven points and four rebounds off the bench.
Shippensburg will take a break for final exams before hosting Mercyhurst at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18 from Heiges Field House.
