Freshman Stephanie Knauer led a group of four players in double figures on Sunday afternoon as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team held off a late Lock Haven push and dispatched the Bald Eagles, 87-82, from Thomas Fieldhouse in the second of two weekend PSAC crossover contests.

Knauer posted her second straight double-double and third this season with a 20-point, game-high 13-rebound effort that included an 8-of-9 performance from the free-throw line.

Senior Shawna Wert shot 10-of-11 from the charity stripe and finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Senior Dana Wert scored 15 points while junior Sarah Strybuc added 12 points and a career-high six assists.

The Raiders (6-1, 2-0 PSAC) finished the game shooting 32-of-39 (82.1 percent) from the free-throw line, including a perfect 16-of-16 effort in the first half. Shippensburg began to stretch its lead midway through the first half, using an 11-0 run to break a tie and go up 22-11 at the 12:28 mark.

Shippensburg increased the lead to 17 points four minutes later and eventually went into halftime with a 47-35 advantage after a jumper from senior Morgan Taylor at the horn.

Lock Haven (2-3, 0-2) came out on fire to start the second half, however, using a 7-0 run to cut the SU lead to 50-43 before twice getting to within two, including a 58-56 margin midway through the half. Back-to-back buckets from Strybuc, freshman Alex Gildea and Knauer pushed the lead back up to eight.

An 11-2 Bald Eagle run gave the host its first lead since two-and-a-half minutes into the game, at 67-66 with 5:19 remaining. An and-1 play just 10 seconds later from Shawna Wert gave the lead back to Shippensburg.

LHU chipped the SU advantage down to two several more times and even got it to one, 83-82, after a steal and a layup with 23 seconds remaining, but the Raiders made four free throws from there on out to lock up the victory.

SU opens up PSAC East play next Sat., Dec. 8, at home with a 1 p.m. matchup against Kutztown from Heiges Field House.
