SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's basketball team wrapped up competition in the 2012 calendar year with a 66-58 loss to Gannon on Wednesday night in the second of two mid-week PSAC crossover games from Heiges Field House.
Junior
Dylan Edgar led the Raiders (2-7, 0-5 PSAC) with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and nine rebounds while sophomore
Sam Pygatt shot 5-of-9 from the floor and finished with 10 points and four rebounds.
Sophomore
Reggie Charles and freshman
Joe Lococo each tallied eight points with Charles adding a game-high five assists. Sophomore
Akil Anderson added six points and three rebounds while freshman
Tony Ellis finished with five points and six rebounds.
Shippensburg got out to an early 9-5 lead with an Ellis layup five minutes into the game. The Golden Knights (9-2, 3-2) then embarked on a 14-3 run over the next seven minutes to grab a 19-12 lead before heading into halftime up nine, 33-24.
Gannon pushed its lead all the way up to 18 points just over five minutes into the second half. A 7-0 SU run then cut the lead to 48-37 at the 11:40 mark, but the Raiders failed to significantly chip away at the deficit the rest of the game.
The Raiders return to action in 2013 with a pair of home PSAC crossover games on the weekend of Jan. 4-5. SU will play Edinboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday before facing off against Slippery Rock at the same time the next day.
