A pair of free throws from senior Dana Wert with 0.7 seconds left in regulation on Friday night broke the final tie and secured the Shippensburg University women's basketball team's 52-50 victory over Hawaii-Hilo on the final day of the Oahu Classic held inside McKinley High School in Oahu, Hawaii.

The Raiders (4-1) and Vulcans (2-1) combined for 17 lead changes and six ties while SU overcame a five-point halftime deficit and an eight-point deficit early in the second half to grind out the victory.

Every player that saw action scored for Shippensburg, led by senior Shawna Wert, who was a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc and finished with a game-high 20 points – her first 20-point outing since dropping 21 at West Chester on Feb. 16, 2011.

Junior Sarah Strybuc scored 13 points while Dana Wert had five points, five rebounds and led all players with four assists. Freshman Stephanie Knauer pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with four points.

The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first half with neither squad able to extend a lead past five points. The Raiders were down for the final four minutes of the first half and the first five minutes of the second before they slowly wrestled back the lead. A Shawna Wert three-pointer with 4:30 left put SU up five while a free throw from Knauer increased the lead to six with 2:20 on the clock.

A 6-0 Hawaii-Hilo run consisting of a Jamie Imai layup and four Jamela McDuffie free throws over the next 1:21 knotted the game at 50-50 with 59 ticks left. Each team traded missed jumpers on the next two possessions with Knauer pulling down the defensive rebound on Hawaii-Hilo's miss with six seconds remaining. Dana Wert then drew the foul with 0.7 left and sank both freebies for the win.

Shippensburg returns to Pennsylvania for its first PSAC crossover action of the season next weekend. SU will travel to Clarion for a 1 p.m. game next Sat., Dec. 1 before heading to Lock Haven for a 1 p.m. matchup the following day.
