Senior Matt Gillette closed out an outstanding cross country career on Saturday in fitting fashion, earning All-America honors with a 17th-place finish at the 2012 Division II Men's Cross Country Championships held in Joplin, Mo.

Gillette, a four-time All-PSAC and All-Region runner for the Raiders, earned his first All-America designation with a stupendous 10K race in 30:00.5 – an improvement of 2:23 from his 51st-place finish at last year's NCAA Championships. Competing as an individual qualifier, Gillette finished second among Atlantic Region runners in the field (Lock Haven's Alex Monroe finished fifth).

Overall, Gillette is SU's 10th men's cross country All-American in school history and the first since Brandon Boyer in 2010. Gillette's 17th-place finish is the best by a Raider runner at the NCAA national championships since Randy Lowe finished fifth in 1991.
