Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Taylor Jones and junior Bre White each scored twice on Tuesday afternoon as the No. 1-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team handled No. 3 IUP, 5-1, from Robb Sports Complex and avenged a September road loss to the Crimson Hawks – the Raiders' lone loss this season.

Shippensburg (14-1, 6-1 PSAC West) controlled the possession throughout the game - especially in the second half - leading IUP (12-3, 7-1) in shots (22-12) and penalty corners (16-9). The victory snapped IUP's eight-game winning streak and dealt the Crimson Hawks their first PSAC West loss this season.

Jones opened the scoring just over five minutes in when she fired home a shot off an assist from senior Kayla Harshman. IUP nearly tied it up three minutes later when Anouk Sickman was rewarded a penalty stroke, but Sickman scuffed the attempt, allowing SU senior goalkeeper Ciarra Delost to make the easy save – one of her nine on the day.

Shippensburg extended the lead to 2-0 just over 19 minutes in when senior Emily Kohlbus scored her fourth goal of the season by redirecting a strong entry into the box from sophomore Ari Saytar.

IUP leading scorer Nicole Bruce cut the Crimson Hawks' deficit in half four minutes later on an unassisted rebound. The game was scoreless for nearly the next 30 minutes of play, until White ended the scoring drought when she raised a penalty stroke shot that deflected off IUP goalkeeper Sarah Lemieux's pads and into the upper left of the cage.

The goal put SU up 3-1 and was the first of three Shippensburg goals in the span of four-and-a-half minutes that essentially put the game away.

Just under three minutes later, Jones added her fifth goal of the season when she sent a loose ball in the front of the cage into the bottom left portion for a 4-1 Shippensburg lead. A minute-and-a-half later, White finished off the scoring when she redirected a pass from Jones and sent it in through the five-hole for her team-leading 15th goal of the year.

On Sept. 19, IUP dealt SU its first PSAC West loss in four years, snapping a 29-game winning streak that dated back to Oct. 11, 2008. The Raiders have not lost since.

Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Mansfield at noon from Robb Sports Complex.
