SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Shippensburg University tennis team played a pair of home matches on a chilly Saturday afternoon from the Robb Sports Complex tennis courts but dropped an 8-1 decision to Molloy and a 9-0 contest to West Virginia State.

Shippensburg (0-5) played well against Molloy, winning 13 points in doubles and 27 points in singles against the Lions. Junior Daniela Delgado and sophomore Kaitlyn Erickson teamed up for the Raiders lone victory, as the duo won at No. 3 doubles by an 8-4 score.

Freshman Katie Shearer and senior Cassie Sidone nearly came away with a victory at No. 2 doubles but dropped a 7-4 tiebreaker to lose by the slimmest of margins, 9-8.

Freshman Brittnee Buckley won seven games at No. 1 singles but fell to Molloy's Nikki Gloria, 6-3, 6-4. Delgado won six games at No. 4 singles. Junior Hannah Wolfe took the first set of her No. 6 singles match 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker but ultimately came up short against Megan Lawless.

West Virginia State, one of the WVIAC's frontrunners, posted a clean sweep in doubles over the Raiders. Shearer won three games at No. 2 singles and Wolfe won two at No. 6 singles. Senior Lisa Snader won a game at No. 5 singles.

Shippensburg is hoping to complete postponed matches against Georgian Court and Hagerstown Community College before wrapping up its fall, non-championship season. Otherwise, SU will return to action in February with an indoor match against Shenandoah before resuming the bulk of its regular season schedule in March.
