Mackenzie Neal converted a free kick into a golden goal on Saturday evening as the Shippensburg University women's soccer team kept itself alive and well in the PSAC playoff picture with a 2-1 overtime victory over host Bloomsburg from Sports Stadium.
Shippensburg (6-5-3, 4-5-2 PSAC) now sits in ninth place in the conference standings with four league games remaining. The top eight teams advance to the postseason.
Neal's strike, the first of her career, came with less than four minutes remaining in the first overtime period and was the second Raider shot of the day that found the net over the head of BU goalkeeper Danielle Fiorelli.
With just 18 seconds remaining before halftime, sophomore
Carolyn Smith lofted a shot over Fiorelli that put the Raiders up 1-0 entering the intermission.
Bloomsburg (4-8-1, 2-7-1 PSAC) forced overtime by converting a corner kick into a goal in the 72nd minute. Other than the one blemish against her, junior goalkeeper
Shelbie Rackley recorded four saves en route to the victory.
The Raiders finished with a 19-7 advantage in shots and a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
SU will travel to face Mercyhurst at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Erie.
