SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Monae Baker scored a game-high 22 points to lead a group of three Raiders in double figures on Saturday afternoon as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team outlasted Cheyney, taking a 71-53 victory from Heiges Field House.
Baker fell one rebound short of registering a double-double while going 8-of-10 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. The 22-point performance was her highest since scoring 24 in Shippensburg's (9-9, 6-8 PSAC) season-opening win over Saint Michael's on Nov. 12.

Shawna Wert went 2-of-3 from three-point range en route to scoring 14 points while sophomore
Sarah Strybuc added 10 to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Strybuc has now scored eight or more points in 10 consecutive games.

Dana Wert added a season-high eight assists to go along with eight points and three rebounds. Sophomore
Codi McMaster earned her first start of her career and scored a career-high eight points in addition to three rebounds.

Morgan Taylor made her first start of the season and went 4-of-4 from the free throw line to finish with four points while tying a career-high with five rebounds.
After facing an early 19-10 deficit nearly halfway through the first half, Shippensburg went on a 11-0 run to grab its first lead of the game at 21-19. Cheyney (0-18, 0-14 PSAC) came right back, converting layups on back-to-back possessions to go grab a 24-23 lead with 5:19 left in the half.
A three-pointer by Strybuc followed by another three by
Shawna Wert on SU's next possession put the Raiders back on top for good, 29-24, with 3:25 to go.
The Raiders closed the half with a McMaster jumper and a
Dana Wert three-pointer with 33 seconds left and went into halftime up 34-31.
Shippensburg turned on the heat in the second half, going on a 15-3 run to start the period and opening up a 49-34 advantage at the 14:28 mark.
Up 53-39 with 11:48 left, Shippensburg went on a 14-4 run to open up a 24-point, 67-43 lead to seal the victory.
Shippensburg will travel Wednesday to Kutztown for a 6 p.m. tipoff against the Golden Bears.
