Women's Basketball Travels to Mansfield Saturday for PSAC East Clash

MANSFIELD, Pa. The Shippensburg University women's basketball team will continue PSAC Eastern Division play on Saturday afternoon from Decker Gymnasium with a matchup against the Mountaineers of Mansfield University. The tip is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Shippensburg enters the game in fourth place in the Eastern Division, one game ahead of Mansfield, East Stroudsburg and Kutztown. The Raiders have won their last six meetings with Mansfield. Their last loss came on Dec. 19, 2007 at Mansfield.

Shippensburg has once again excelled at the free-throw line, shooting 78.5 percent (237-of-302) to rank 8th in Division II. The Raiders have shot 72 percent or better from the free-throw line in every game this season.

Junior shooting guard Shawna Wert, who led the PSAC in made free throws a year ago, has shot 80-of-95 from the free-throw line thus far. Her 80 makes is the most in the PSAC (Mansfield's Mallory Moore sits just one behind, at 79), while her 84.2 percent proficiency ranks in a tie for sixth in the league. In her career, Shawna Wert is an 84.4 percent shooter from the line (353-of-418).

Junior point guard Dana Wert leads the team and currently ranks fourth in the PSAC in free-throw shooting, having made 84.6 percent of her attempts (66-of-78). In her career, Dana Wert is an 83.5 percent shooter from the line (269-of-322).

Senior Monae Baker, who entered the year as just a 54.4 percent free-throw shooter in her first three collegiate seasons (99-of-182), is shooting 66.7 percent from the line (26-of-39). She has never shot better than 59 percent from the free-throw line in a season.

Fellow post player Caitlin Bamberger is shooting exactly 74 percent from the free-throw line (37-of-50).

SU is 0-4 this season when it makes less than 18 free throws in a contest.
