BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2 Shippensburg University field hockey team gave up its first goal of the season with less than five minutes to play on a rainy Tuesday afternoon from Sports Stadium and ultimately lost a 1-0 decision to the No. 3-ranked Huskies of Bloomsburg.
Shippensburg (2-1), playing its third match in four days, was held to just one shot on goal in the contest – it came off the stick of current PSAC Western Division Co-Player of the Week
Bre White at the 5:50 mark of the first half. Senior
Katie Pufnock attempted three penalty corners in the first 10 minutes of the game but SU could not capitalize.
Junior
Amanda Burridge was credited with a defensive save in the first half. Fellow junior
Ciarra Delost turned aside five shots but relinquished the game's lone tally off a Bloomsburg penalty corner.
Bloomsburg (3-0) junior midfielder Amber Aulenbach sent a pass in from the right wing that was re-directed into the net by Jenna DiSabatino. The Huskies had 10 penalty corners in the contest and limited SU without one for the final 60 minutes of the game.
The game was played in a steady rain and the two teams put forth excellent performances despite the adverse weather conditions. Puddles formed on various portions of the field during the game.
Shippensburg returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday for a road match with No. 9 Millersville from Chryst Field.
