ERIE, Pa. – The No. 3 Shippensburg University field hockey team scored a goal in each half of its Tuesday afternoon PSAC Western Division clash with Mercyhurst and held the host Lakers without a shot for all 70 minutes of its 2-0 victory.
Shippensburg (8-2, 4-0 PSAC West) scored the lone goal of the first half at 10:16 when junior
Taylor Jones delivered her fifth tally of the season off an assist by sophomore
Bre White. It was the 11th assist of the season for White, who is already just six assists short of Lindsey Knupp's single-season record of 17 set in 2003.
In the second half, Jones set up the fourth goal of the season by sophomore
Lauren Taylor, whose strike at 43:02 capped the scoring. SU finished the contest with a 21-0 advantage in shots and a 24-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Mercyhurst (4-5, 2-3 PSAC West) got 13 saves from goalkeeper Ashley Wiskup.
The Raiders extended their PSAC Western Division winning streak to 22 games with Tuesday's victory.
SU has its work cut out this weekend with road games in back-to-back days against nationally-ranked opponents. The Raiders will face No. 8 Kutztown at 4 p.m. Friday before taking on No. 2 West Chester at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
