SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore goalkeeper
Shelbie Rackley made five saves for the Shippensburg University women's soccer team on Saturday night from David See Field – including several at point-blank range – but could not stop a second-half penalty kick as the visiting Bloomsburg Huskies earned a 1-0 victory over the Raiders.
Shippensburg (3-3-3, 1-2-2 PSAC) totaled eight corner kicks in Saturday's match but could not establish a rhythm offensively, firing just seven shots overall. Husky senior goalkeeper Frances Nicoletti caught several Raider crossing passes and was in the proper position all night to thwart the SU advances.
Bloomsburg (4-3, 3-2 PSAC) scored in the 53rd minute of play. After a tackle in the box, Katie Walczuk sent a low ball that snuck in the lower left portion of the net past a diving Rackley, whose outstretched arm just missed deflecting the shot.
Shippensburg returns to action at 3 p.m. Wednesday from David See Field against Mercyhurst.
