SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 3 Shippensburg University field hockey team once again got to a fast start on a sunny and warm Saturday afternoon, erupting for four goals in the first 6 minutes 45 seconds of a 10-2 rout of Mansfield from Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (7-2, 3-0 PSAC West) had three different players score multiple goals: senior
Kristina Taylor, junior
Emily Kohlbus and sophomore
Bre White. Seven different players had at least one goal for the Raiders, who recorded a 35-12 advantage in shots and a 15-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Just over two minutes into the contest, junior
Taylor Jones opened the scoring off an assist from White. Jones finished with one goal and two assists while White had a game-high three assists in addition to her goals.
Kristina Taylor scored the next two goals of the game – her 11th and 12th of the season – before White capped off the opening run at the 6:45 mark.
Mansfield (3-4, 1-2 PSAC West) got on the board in the 22nd minute of play with a goal by Taryn Schawillie. The Raiders brought many of their regulars back into the game after the tally and scored twice more before halftime – including the fourth goal of the season for sophomore
Lauren Taylor.
Kohlbus scored the first two goals of the second half for the Raiders with assists from Jones and sophomore
Megan Jett. Freshman
Rosey Tuttle added a goal off a
Megan Jett assist before sophomore
Brittany Jett tallied with 12 minutes to go.
In goal, sophomore
Carenna Neely made two saves in the first half while senior
Alyssa Stefanadis made four saves in the second half.
Shippensburg, which extended its PSAC Western Division winning streak to 21 games, begins a three-game road trip at 3 p.m. Tuesday from Mercyhurst.
