Box Score
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Despite taking 11 more shots than Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon, Shippensburg failed to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to The Rock in women's soccer action from David See Field.

Neither team could muster much offense in the first half, but the Raiders' (2-2-1, 1-1-1 PSAC) best scoring opportunity came at the 31-minute mark when a Rock (3-1-2, 1-0-1) defender was whistled for a handball in the box. Sophomore Rachel Hess took the penalty shot, but in aiming for the upper left ninety, Hess's shot went wide.

Less than four minutes later, Slippery Rock's Steph Buckenheimer tapped in the game's lone goal off of a ball from the head of a teammate. Sophomore Shelbie Rackley, however, finished the first half with three saves off of five total SRU shots.

The Raiders' offense had opportunities in the second frame, but failed to capitalize on its 14 shots.

With nearly seven minutes left in regulation, SU had its best chance to score when redshirt-freshman Kate Zech outran the defense and found herself 10 yards from the net with just SRU goalkeeper Dana O'Neill to beat. Zech hesitated and got off a shot that O'Neill deflected right back, but Zech's second shot attempt found the stomach of a diving O'Neill. Zech finished the game with four shots to lead Shippensburg.

The Raiders are back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Millersville.
