SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – For the second consecutive season, the Shippensburg University women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Philadelphia University after Tuesday afternoon's match from David See Field ended without either side scoring a goal.
Shippensburg (2-1-2) has now recorded ties in consecutive matches for the first time under head coach
Rob Fulton. It is the first time that SU has had consecutive draws since posting back-to-back 0-0 ties against Millersville and Edinboro on October 27 and 29, 2002.
The Raiders had arguably the best chance to score in the 51st minute when junior
Cassie Armold crept up a corner kick and fired a shot that struck the side of the net just wide of the goal. Another solid scoring chance came in the final minute of the first half when sophomore
Meghan Mahon fired a low, dipping shot that was corralled by the Ram keeper.
SU also achieved back-to-back corner kicks in the 99th minute but was unable to find the back of the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Shelbie Rackley made five saves in the contest and has allowed just one goal in 355 minutes of action this season.
Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. Friday with a PSAC clash against Lock Haven from David See Field.
