Box Score
CHARLESTON, W.V. — A goal in the 68th minute by redshirt freshman forward Kate Zech propelled the Shippensburg University women's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory in the season opener over the University of Charleston, a squad picked second in the WVIAC preseason coaches poll.

Shippensburg (1-0) was aggressive and maintained a steady attack against the Golden Eagles, recording 10 shots and eight corner kicks. Five of those corner kicks came in the second half. Defensively, SU allowed just seven total shots.

Zech's goal was assisted by sophomore forward Meghan Mahon.

Sophomore Shelbie Rackley stopped all three shots on goal to record her first solo shutout with the Raiders. She was a part of four combined shutouts last season as a freshman.

Shippensburg will remain in the Mountain State until Saturday when it takes on West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats were picked to win the WVIAC in its preseason coaches poll. Saturday's match starts at 10 a.m.
