Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Wins Six Events; Takes Team Crown at Lafayette Seven-Way Meet

Spence wins 1,500 and 3K; Hess wins 400, takes second in 200 and stars on 4x4 relay

EASTON, Pa. – The Shippensburg women's outdoor track and field team won six events on Saturday to win the team crown at the Lafayette Seven-Way meet from Metzger Field with 157 points, besting the likes of Lehigh, East Stroudsburg, Kutztown and the hosts.

Junior Neely Spence posted a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:32.62 and also cruised to a time of 9:28.51 in the 3K – winning both events.

Senior Erica Hess won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.53 seconds, finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.56 seconds and starred on the 4x400-meter relay squad that posted its PSAC qualifier in 3:56.88.

Senior Jamie McCollum and sophomore Ashley Fornshell finished 1-2 in the 800. McCollum narrowly missed a NCAA provisional qualifying mark, posting a time of 2:14.48, while Fornshell crossed the line in 2:16.65.

Freshman Ashley Merton was one of four SU javelin throwers to score points with PSAC qualifying performances. Merton won the javelin with a top mark of 125 feet 10 inches.

Shippensburg will compete in the Millersville Metrics next Friday and Saturday from the Biemesderfer.
