Shippensburg University women's basketball alum Lauren Beckley '10 has been named the most valuable player of the Dame Ligaen (Women's League) according to Lemvig Basket, her professional basketball team in Denmark. The voting was conducted last Saturday during the league playoffs.

"Lauren has been a very important part of our success this season - taking on a lot of responsibility and showing the way for the rest of the team in a very unselfish manner," said René Jakobsen, the chairman of Lemvig Basket. "She has without a doubt been the most valuable player in the Dameliga this season, which also shows on the stats."

In 24 games this season for Lemvig Basket, Beckley averaged 21.6 points and 9.8 rebounds per game working primarily as a post player for her team. She scored 519 points – including a game-high 38 in a win over Vaerlose – and shot 56 percent from the floor on her two-point field-goal attempts.

Her all-around play included 43 steals, 38 assists and seven blocked shots. She led the league in scoring and was the only player to average more than 20 points per game. Beckley also ranked second in rebounding and posted 13 double-doubles during the season.

"Lauren has truly been a good example of the right combination of skills and personality," Jakobsen said. "She always puts the team before herself, and she has committed herself to the club both on and off the court. We are so proud and happy that the players in the Dameliga have honored her with this title."
