KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Shippensburg University softball team split two games on Wednesday afternoon at the 2011 Rebel Spring Games, as the Raiders won 9-2 over Fayetteville State and lost 4-1 to Chestnut Hill. SU is now 3-3 on its Florida road trip with four games still remaining.
Shippensburg (10-5) used the hitting of senior
Hope Cornell to defeat the Broncos in the opening game. Cornell slugged a two-run double in the first inning and smacked a two-out grand slam in the second inning. Her two at-bats led to a career-high six RBIs.
In her last five games, Cornell is 12-for-15 with nine RBIs. She has multiple hits in eight of 15 games this season.
Junior
Emily Parkins tossed a complete game in the circle, allowing two unearned runs while striking out a career-high 11 batters. Parkins allowed four hits and struck out three batters.
The Raiders got eight hits against Chestnut Hill but scored its only run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of senior
Courtney Steele.
Freshman
Emily Estep had two hits and threw the last 2.2 innings from the circle, allowing one earned run and striking out two batters. Senior
Dana Ward got the start, allowing three earned runs in 3.1 innings with six strikeouts.
On Thursday, Shippensburg faces Ferris State at 3 p.m. and Lake Erie at 5 p.m.
