SALISBURY, N.C. – The Shippensburg University softball team split a pair of games Saturday at the Catawba College Invitational, dropping a 1-0 decision to a talented Lenoir-Rhyne squad before rebounding with a 3-1 victory over Glenville State in its second game of the day.
Freshman
Emily Estep pitched an outstanding game against the Bears, a squad with an 11-3 record that was fresh off a victory over Kutztown on Friday. She allowed just two hits in a complete-game effort, but her one mistake was a solo home run by Jody Mizelle that proved to be the difference. Estep walked just one batter while striking out four batters.
Estep was the hero of the second game, however, as she slugged two solo home runs to help SU defeat the Pioneers. Junior
Chelsea Kendall pitched a complete game to earn the victory over Glenville State.
Shippensburg (6-2) will finish its weekend at 10 a.m. Sunday versus Davis & Elkins.
