MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Shippensburg women's basketball team limited regional rival Millersville to just 20 points in the first half of Wednesday night's divisional clash from Pucillo Gymnasium but could not stop the Marauders down the stretch, dropping a 70-56 decision to the hosts.
Shippensburg (11-14, 6-7 PSAC East) used an 11-4 run over the final three minutes of the first half to take a 26-20 lead into the intermission. Senior
Kasey Gardner scored 15 of her team-high 20 points in the first half and finished the game making 4-of-8 from three-point range and converting all six of her free-throw attempts.
Millersville (20-5, 10-3 PSAC East) re-gained the lead with 10:14 remaining in the contest and pulled away with a 17-7 run over the final seven minutes of the game. The Marauders got a career-high 30 points from sophomore point Mashira Newman.
Gardner surpassed the 1,700-point plateau on Wednesday and enters the final game of her collegiate career with 1,717 through 110 career contests. She ranks fifth in school history for career rebounds (671), fifth in career three-pointers (186) and 10th in steals (176).

Shawna Wert contributed eight points, three rebounds and three assists. Fellow sophomore
Caitlin Bamberger and junior
Monae Baker each delivered seven points.
Dana Wert had a career-high seven rebounds.
Shippensburg fought hard throughout the contest and was able to maintain its lead throughout the contest with strong free-throw shooting. SU - which entered the game ranked No. 5 in Division II for free-throw percentage - shot 15-of-17 (88.2 percent) from the charity stripe in the contest.
Shippensburg will conclude its season at 1 p.m. Saturday when it hosts East Stroudsburg from Heiges Field House. Gardner, the team's lone senior, will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony.
