MANSFIELD, Pa. -
Sophomore Caitlin Bamberger posted her first double-double of the season and the third of her career on Saturday afternoon from Decker Gymnasium as the Shippensburg University women's basketball team earned a 65-56 victory over a resilient Mansfield squad.

Bamberger, making her second consecutive start, was one of four Raiders in double figures (12 points) and tallied a career-high 13 rebounds in the contest. SU tied its season high with 46 rebounds, a feat accomplished in the previous matchup with Mansfield and also against Cheyney.

Senior Kasey Gardner finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Gardner moved past Linda Virgens '80 and Christy Weil '92 on SU's all-time rebounding list and now ranks fifth in school history with 666 career boards.

Shippensburg (11-13, 6-6 PSAC East) led by as many as eight points in the first half but had to continually battle against the Mountaineers - a squad that held a 12-point halftime lead last weekend against second-place Millersville.

Mansfield (6-18, 1-11 PSAC East) got within one point of the lead during the first half before SU stretched its lead back out to nine after a lay-up by Strybuc with 11 seconds remaining. Mountie junior Mallory Moore hit a three-pointer mere ticks before the first-half buzzer, making the halftime score 30-24 in favor of Shippensburg.

Gardner was on a triple-double pace at halftime with nine points, five rebounds and five assists at the intermission along with two steals.

SU scored the first five points of the half on a three-pointer by Gardner and a lay-up by Bamberger that gave the Raiders a 35-24 lead with 18:18 remaining. The Mountaineers refused to relent, rallying from a 14-point deficit at 8:48 on the clock to get within four points with 3:20 to play.

SU sealed its victory at the free-throw line, with Bamberger, Shawna Wert and Dana Wert all making both of their attempts in the final 90 seconds. The Raiders made 23-of-28 (82.1 percent) from the free-throw line in the contest.

Dana Wert had 12 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. Shawna Wert had 10 points and five rebounds. Junior Monae Baker contributed nine points and five boards off the bench.

Shippensburg concludes its three-game road trip Wednesday at Millersville. Tip-off from Pucillo Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
