SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Senior Kasey Gardner scored a game-high 22 points and junior Monae Baker posted her second double-double of the season on Saturday afternoon from Heiges Field House as the Shippensburg women's basketball team closed the first half on a 22-9 run to cruise past visiting Cheyney, 76-51.

Shippensburg (10-12, 5-5 PSAC East) countered a strong start from the visitors by hitting shots on 5 of 6 possessions beginning at the 9:17 mark of the first half that established a double-digit lead. The Lady Wolves were within nine points of the lead with six minutes remaining before the intermission but did not get any closer. In fact, SU led by as many as 28 points in the contest.

Gardner had one of her most efficient performances of the season, playing just 28 minutes but providing 13 points in the first half and nine more after the intermission. She was 9-of-13 from the field, grabbed six rebounds and finished 3 of 6 from three-point range.

Baker nearly had her double-double by halftime; entering the locker room with seven points and eight boards. She finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 6-of-8 from the floor.

Four Lady Raiders finished double figures. Sophomore guard Shawna Wert had 11 points, five rebounds and three steals while sophomore guard Dana Wert finished with 10 points and eight assists. The duo was 9 of 10 at the free-throw line.

Sophomore Caitlin Bamberger was strong off the bench in tallying a season-high nine points, five rebounds and three steals. Freshman Ashley Giedemann hit a three-pointer that started SU's first half run and freshman Jazmine Hall was one of three SU players with two points. Hall's first career bucket came late off an assist from junior guard Erin Varley.

By virtue of Bloomsburg's victory Saturday over Kutztown, the Lady Raiders moved into a tie for fourth place in the PSAC Eastern Division standings. However, the Golden Bears hold the tiebreaker by virtue of its season sweep over Shippensburg.

With four games remaining in the regular season, Shippensburg begins a three-game road trip on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. contest at West Chester.
