SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team pulled away from Chowan late in the second half of Sunday night's 60-51 victory to win the championship game of the season-opening 2011 Wolf's Bus Lines Tournament from Heiges Field House.

Senior Monae Baker paced the Raiders (2-0) with her first double-double of the season, posting 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting and adding a game-high 12 rebounds in the win over the Hawks (1-1). Baker also scored 24 points in Saturday night's semifinal win over Saint Michael's. For her efforts during the two-day tournament, Baker was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player in a ceremony after the game.

Also honored from the Raiders was junior Caitlin Bamberger, who was named to the All-Tournament Team after scoring 12 points on Sunday to go along with her 17-point, 10-rebound double-double on Saturday. She fell one rebound short of notching her second consecutive double-double to start the season. Bamberger also had two steals and three assists versus Chowan, the latter of which tied senior Erin Varley for team high.

Junior Shawna Wert had her second consecutive 16-point showing, highlighted by an 11-for-12 performance from the charity stripe, which included nine makes in the final 4:13 of regulation that essentially put the game away.

Defensively, senior Lindsay Howard had two blocks from her center position. Howard also went 2-of-3 from the field and added six points, while sophomore Sarah Strybuc went 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and finished with seven points.

The Raiders return to action next weekend from Heiges Field House. SU will play California (Pa.) at 1 p.m. Saturday and Indiana (Pa.) at 1 p.m. Sunday.
