SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team put together a complete team effort on Friday night in posting a 2-0 shutout of No. 20-ranked West Virginia Wesleyan from David See Field.
Just over 40 minutes into a scoreless first half, the Raiders (4-4-1) were able to capitalize after an
Andrew Collier shot attempt was stopped by the Bobcats' (7-3-1) diving goalkeeper, who let the ball roll away from him. Freshman
Fred Lucas banged the rebound into the back of the net for a 1-0 SU advantage just before halftime.
At the 74-minute mark, Shippensburg took advantage of its second corner kick of the evening to double its lead. Sophomore
Oli Templeton unleashed a great ball off the corner that eventually found the forehead of a leaping Collier behind the pack, who connected on his second goal of the season.
The intensity was palpable all evening, as the two teams finished the game with a combined 39 fouls and three yellow cards. Junior goalkeeper
Andrew Foran made four saves in net for his second shutout of the season.
SU returns to action at 4 p.m. Monday at Concord. The game was originally scheduled for early September but was postponed due to inclement weather.
