LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
The Shippensburg University women's basketball team nearly rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half on Tuesday night from Thomas Field House, getting within one point of the lead in the final minute before dropping an 80-75 decision to the Lady Eagles of Lock Haven.

Shippensburg (3-6) trailed by four points at halftime and faced a double-digit deficit with 5:34 to play. The Lady Raider comeback began when senior Kasey Gardner scored all the points on an 8-3 run over the next two minutes, and sophomore guard Dana Wert followed with a layup to get SU within five points.

With 2:22 to play, sophomore guard Shawna Wert got the Lady Raiders within two points of the lead by making a pair of free throws. After a defensive stop, Shippensburg tried three different three-pointers on the same possession but missed each shot.

It remained a two-point until just 20 seconds were left on the clock. After driving to the hoop and getting to the free-throw line, Gardner converted 1-of-2 free throws to bring the Lady Raiders within one point of the lead. Heather McHugh for Lock Haven was fouled and hit both free throws with 17 seconds remaining, but SU was whistled for traveling on the ensuing possession.

Four players posted double figures for the Lady Raiders. Gardner finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, leapfrogging Shanna Oaddams '07 to reach 10th place on the school's all-time points list (1,458).
