EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg women's basketball team started the second half with a 17-3 run on Saturday afternoon from Koehler Fieldhouse to pull away from host East Stroudsburg and ultimately achieve a 74-51 victory over the Warriors.

Shippensburg (9-9, 4-2 PSAC East) won a divisional game at Koehler Fieldhouse for the first time in three attempts, as the home team had won all four meetings since SU moved to the PSAC Eastern Division at the start of the 2008-09 season. The Lady Raiders used a 9-2 run at the end of the first half to build a nine-point lead at the intermission and took control in the final 20 minutes.

Sophomore guard Shawna Wert led the Lady Raiders with 19 points, making all seven of her shots from the field and making 3-of-5 from the free-throw line. Senior Kasey Gardner added 15 points and three steals and has now scored more than 1,600 points for her career.

Sophomore guard Dana Wert had 10 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals in 32 minutes of work. Freshman Sarah Strybuc chipped in 11 points and four rebounds off the bench, - she shot 4-of-5 from the field and finished in double figures for the fifth time this season.

The Lady Raiders took full advantage of the glass – out-rebounding the Warriors by a 45-29 margin. SU's 45 rebounds are one short of the season high set last week against Mansfield. Junior Lindsay Howard led the Lady Raiders with nine rebounds while junior Monae Baker returned to the starting lineup and had seven boards. Both ladies scored four points in the contest.

Eleven different Lady Raiders scored at least one point, including five off the bench from freshman Ashley Giedemann.

Bloomsburg is currently atop the division with a 5-1 mark – their only blemish came against Shippensburg. Millersville could move into a tie for first place with the Huskies pending the result of their make-up game tomorrow at East Stroudsburg. SU and West Chester are tied at 4-2 in the division with Kutztown (2-3) currently on the outside looking in. Kutztown will make up a game with Cheyney on Monday.

Shippensburg returns home Wednesday at 6 p.m. against Millersville.
