DALLAS – Shippensburg University football All-American John Kuhn '04 will be the second former Red Raider to play in a Super Bowl when the Green Bay Packers face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. from Cowboys Stadium. The game will air on FOX.
Kuhn earned a Super Bowl ring as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad in 2005 but was not in uniform that day. Current Green Bay Packers director of player development Rob Davis '92 played in Super Bowl XXXII on Jan. 25, 1998 when Denver defeated Green Bay, 34-21.
The PSAC has now had a representative in the Super Bowl in each of the last three seasons. Jahri Evans (Bloomsburg) won a Super Bowl with New Orleans in 2010 and Reggie Wells (Clarion) competed with Arizona in 2009.
A Northeast Region finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy given to the top player in NCAA Division II as a senior, Kuhn finished his career with 4,685 yards rushing, 910 carries, 53 touchdowns, 5,300 all-purpose yards and 26 games with at least 100 yards rushing, all school records. Kuhn was named PSAC Western Division Offensive Player of the Year in 2003 and was a three-time All-PSAC Western Division First Team selection.
Kuhn was also a three-time All-American selection and was selected to play in the 2005 Whataburger Cactus Bowl. A two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First-Team honoree and PSAC Fall Top 10 Award winner, Kuhn graduated in December 2004 with a degree in chemistry and 3.3 grade point average.
