Box Score

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Behind a four-goal first half and several splendid passing plays on Sunday afternoon from David See Field, the Shippensburg University men's soccer team won its first home game since 2007 with a convincing 6-1 victory over Washington Adventist University in the final game of the second annual Red Raider Classic.

Shippensburg (1-0) got on the board in the 11th minute when senior tri-captain Dave Rostad finished a pretty breakaway feed from sophomore Chris Schlegel. It was the first goal since 2008 for Rostad, who earned All-PSAC honors for his strong play last season.

Just four minutes later, Schlegel achieved his first collegiate goal off a splendid feed by senior tri-captain Miles Harriger. Schlegel scored again five minutes later on a breakaway after being sent in by freshman Simon Neubauer.

In the 39th minute, the Red Raiders converted another technical passing play with the first collegiate goal for sophomore Taylor Hudson, who tapped in a nifty cross by sophomore Logan Henke. SU got an early second-half tally on a breakaway by sophomore All-PSAC forward Michael Celius after a beautiful long pass from Rostad. The scoring was capped in the 89th minute by sophomore Jonathan DeNicola, who easily finished a great cross from senior Scott Smith.

Sunday's contest was the first home victory for Shippensburg head coach Jeremy Spering and also marked the first time under Spering that the Red Raiders scored more than two goals in a game. SU's last home victory was a 6-1 home decision over UDC on Oct. 18, 2007. The Raiders outshot the Shock 26-11 and dictated the pace of the entire game in convincing fashion.

Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8 from Goldey-Beacom.
