SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team scored three goals in each half and had five different players net tallies on Tuesday afternoon from David See Field as the Lady Raiders cruised to a 6-0 victory over Davis & Elkins, the reigning WVIAC champions.

Shippensburg (6-2-1) got on the board quickly in the 10th minute. Sophomore Katie Leverentz tapped a pass over to freshman Rachel Hess, who unleashed a beautiful volley into the upper ninety that put the Lady Raiders up 1-0. It was the second goal of the season for Hess.

The Lady Raiders began to put the game out of reach with two goals in a 49-second span late in the first half. Leverentz was on the receiving end of a pass from freshman Meghan Mahon and finished her run with a shot that went into the lower left corner of the net for her fifth goal of the season.

Shortly thereafter, freshman Ashley Vellucci sent in a cross from just in front of the end line that was chested into the net by sophomore Kristen Kane for a sensational goal. Kane had just checked into the game after Leverentz's goal and was competing in her first minute of collegiate action.

Less than four minutes into the second half, senior Alison Dowdrick scored her fourth goal of the year by finishing a cross in the box from senior Amanda Greenawalt. The opportunity began after a strong entry pass by graduate Laura Brown.

Mahon ended the day with a five-point game after scoring two goals late in the match. In the 84th minute, freshman Kylee Bricker sent in a corner kick that went right to the head of Mahon, who finished the chance with the team's fifth goal of the match. Four minutes later, Mahon scored again after a quick pass from Kane.

Freshman Samantha Wood made five saves to achieve her first collegiate shutout and her second victory of the season.

Shippensburg continues its homestand at 4 p.m. Friday with a crucial PSAC contest against Kutztown.
