ERIE, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team made the long trek to Erie on Wednesday afternoon but could not get on the scoreboard, dropping a hard-fought 1-0 decision to the Lakers of Mercyhurst. SU finished its three-game road trip with a 1-1-1 record.

Shippensburg (2-1-1, 1-1 PSAC) held a 9-5 edge in shots on goal, but Laker goalkeeper Rachel Griepsma turned them all aside. Three of those attempts came off the foot of senior Alison Dowdrick, and two from junior Brittany Hibshman.

Senior Megan Delio made three saves in the first half while freshman goalkeeper Shelbie Rackley recorded one save in the second half. It is the fourth straight game that the goalkeepers have split the net-minding duties.

Mercyhurst (5-1, 2-1 PSAC) got a goal in the eighth minute from Paige McDowell, the conference's second-leading scorer behind Gannon's Amanda Sharbaugh. It was the sixth goal of the season for McDowell.

Shippensburg continues PSAC play at 5:30 p.m. Saturday from David See Field against Gannon.
