First-Half Tally Not Enough For Men’s Soccer In Road Setback Wednesday at Mercyhurst, 3-1

SU finishes road trip with 1-2 record; returns home this Saturday

ERIE, Pa. – An early goal on Wednesday afternoon for the Shippensburg University men's soccer team did not hold up in its PSAC opener as the Lakers of Mercyhurst came from behind to earn a 3-1 victory over the Raiders. SU finished its three-game road trip 1-2.

Shippensburg (2-3, 0-1 PSAC) took the lead in the 16th minute as senior Miles Harriger converted a penalty kick that put the Raiders up 1-0. It was the second goal of the season for Harriger. Just 10 minutes later, Chris Hampel finished a penalty kick with a goal for the Lakers and the two squads remained tied at 1-1 through halftime.

Mercyhurst (3-0-1, 1-0-1 PSAC) took the lead in the 56th minute after a goal by Dean Atkins, his third tally of the season. The Lakers clinched their victory in the 80th minute with a tally from Alex Manea. For Shippensburg, sophomore Andrew Foran made his fourth start of the season in goal and finished with eight saves.

Shippensburg returns home Saturday for a 3 p.m. conference clash with Gannon from David See Field.
