SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
The Shippensburg University softball team scored 20 runs and slugged 27 hits including five home runs on Saturday afternoon from Robb Field as the Lady Raiders concluded the 2010 regular season with a pair of impressive victories over playoff-bound East Stroudsburg, 10-9 and 10-2.

Shippensburg (16-26, 5-11 PSAC East) trailed 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning during the opener and put forth a frenzied rally for the victory. A huge momentum boost came off the bat of junior Moira Johnsen in the fourth when she launched a three-run homer to left field that brought SU within 7-5.

The two teams exchanged runs in the fifth inning before the Lady Raiders tied it in the sixth. With one out, junior Jill Mullan launched triple into the left-center field gap that scored senior Kiley Abersold and got Shippensburg within a run. After a comebacker, senior Lisamarie Ramagli came through in the clutch and continued her torrid weekend at the plate with a clean single to right that tied the score at 8-8.

East Stroudsburg (18-27, 6-10 PSAC East) recaptured the lead with a run in the top of the seventh inning off junior starter Dana Ward but sophomore Chelsea Kendall entered in relief to neutralize the Warrior scoring threat.

In the bottom of the seventh, junior Hope Cornell led off the inning with a single and after a fielder's choice and sophomore Meg Lehman added a single with one out to put the tying run on second base.

A long flyout from Johnsen moved freshman pinch runner Alyssa Fahringer to third base and brought Abersold to the plate, who delivered with an infield single that tied the score. Freshman Lizzy Wedell, one of SU's two remaining players on the bench, came up to pinch hit and hit a sinking line drive to right field that was dropped by the outfielder and capped off SU's comeback.

Shippensburg got at least one hit from all of its starters in the nightcap and cruised to a five-inning victory. Junior Courtney Steele smacked a grand slam in the first inning, Ramagli hit a two-run homer in the second (her second of the day) and Cornell and launched a two-run homer in the fourth to give Shippensburg an 8-1 lead. In the fifth, SU scored an unearned run and Cornell hit a sacrifice fly that ended the game, 10-2.

In four games this weekend, Shippensburg hit .375, scored 30 runs and totaled 45 hits. SU also had 10 extra-base hits (including six home runs). Cornell was 7-for-10 at the plate with two home runs, seven RBIs and scored three runs. Ramagli was 8-for-16 with two home runs, six RBIs and five runs. Lehman (5-for-12) and Ward (6-for-15) each hit over .400 this weekend.

Saturday's doubleheader featured more than 30 former Lady Raider softball players in attendance for an alumni gathering. It also marked the final games in the collegiate careers of Ramagli and Abersold.

Abersold thrived as an outfielder and a designated player during her senior season with the Lady Raiders. This season at the Rebel Spring Games she slugged her first career home run and added another with a grand slam later in the season at Slippery Rock. Abersold ranked third on the team in hitting this season with a .301 average after entering the season with no hits in her career. She started in 31 of the 32 games in which she has appeared with nine runs and 12 RBIs. Overall in her career, Abersold appeared in 63 games.

Ramagli was one of the most important hitters on the team for the last four seasons while playing at first base and catcher. As a senior she led the team with 28 RBIs and scored 19 runs while drawing 13 walks. Last season as a junior, Ramagli was an All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team and Daktronics All-Atlantic Region Second Team pick at first base after posting a career-high batting average of .313. She ranked sixth in the PSAC for walks with 27 and committed just three errors defensively. Overall for her career, Ramagli appeared in 187 games and made 181 starts with 136 hits and 56 runs scored. She has also totaled 20 home runs, 90 RBIs and 20 doubles during her career.

Notes: At the conclusion of the 2010 season, Cornell has totaled 24 home runs, including eight in each of her first three seasons with the team…Steele has 21 home runs through the same stretch of play but missed 20 games due to injury as a freshman…Ramagli finished her career with 20 home runs, one short of the old school record set by Julie Slothower.
